Mothers Day Weekend: Eat, Drink, & Get Out of Diaper Duty
Is it just me or does Mothers Day account for a whole weekend worth of celebration whereas Fathers Day can pretty much be summed up with brunch after church? I have yet to change a diaper this weekend and Jeff both made and cleaned up after our blueberry pancakes this morning. If I can expect more of the same tomorrow then I am one happy camper my friends.
Our Mothers Day eve was pretty top notch even if I do say so myself. We kicked the evening off with those lemon meringue martinis I mentioned earlier. You know, the ones that lit my email inbox on fire with requests for the recipe. Never fear interfriends; I gotcha covered. After a bit of tweaking here and there, here is what Jeff ended up with:
1 oz. of Vanilla Vodka
4 oz. Triple Sec
7 oz. of Half and Half
1.5 oz. of Lemonade concentrate
Whipped cream and lemon for garnish
Combine all the ingredients in a martini shaker with ice and shake shake shake it up. Go heavy on the shaking because the frothier the better. You’ll get the whole meringuey thing going on with the froth.
And realizing that nearly everything that goes on in the house these days is practically guaranteed to end up on the blog, Jeff asked if I intended to post a picture of his creation. C’mon, even you guys know me well enough to know the answer to that. Apparently he did too because I turned my back for a moment and next thing I know my lemon meringue martini has been rimmed with graham cracker crumbs and a fancy shmancy spiraled lemon peel has been strategically placed so as to make for a great photo.
Not wanting to hurt anybody’s feelings he even whipped up some virgin variety drinks (lovingly dubbed the Cass-itini, the Kenn-itini, and the Tor-itini) for the girls. Even Jayce got in on the action.
We hung out around the fire-pit out back and roasted up some pizza sandwiches in the fire irons. After dinner the girls kicked the soccer ball around the artificial turf grass while the younger two chased after them.
These days its more common than not for my teen and tween to be involved in sparring matches. You can imagine then how the sight of them playing in the yard together was about as good a Mothers Day gift as I could have asked for.
Anybody care to place a friendly wager as to how long that will last?

haha! That looks great!
Happy Mother’s Day, Darcie! I miss you!

Hey thanks for the encouragement. My ‘rational’ head tells me those things but sometimes my ‘feelings’ get the best of me. And yes the homemade cards and gifts do heal.
Blessings to you on this Mother’s Day!
