Father’s Day Round These Parts
I guess it’s been a boring few days around here because I got nothin’ to share with ya. Father’s Day was uneventful. And when I say uneventful, believe me when I tell you it was uneventful. More uneventful than it EVER has been before. It seems both Jeff and I have been dealt some pretty hefty blows from our fathers over the last year or so and we felt that the best way we could honor them on Father’s Day was to let the day quietly pass. You know, if you can’t say anything nice… I did, however, call my gramps to pass along my Father’s Day wishes but I got voicemail. They are traveling of course. They’re always traveling. He’ll be pleased to find two smart-ass t-shirts from me waiting for him in the mail when he gets home though. It’s become a tradition for me to get him t-shirts every year. It really is fitting because he’s not a touchy feely type of Gramps by any stretch of the imagination. I spend a good two or three weeks searching out the most fitting tees, you know, the ones with the sarcastic sayings written across the chest? I’d love to share the ones I found this year but my Gramps is a faithful reader and I don’t want to ruin the surprise.
Back to our little celebration though. Jeff thouroughly enjoyed his day. We had lunch at our Mexican place and then took Jayce to the Children’s Museum for a few hours (hip hip hooray for free admission day). Then he treated me to a Starbucks Strawberry Creme Frappuccino courtesy of the gift card my thoughtful Gram and Gramps sent him for Father’s Day. We topped the day off with a BBQ in the backyard while Jayce chased the tweet-tweets (birds) back and forth. By day’s end any thoughts of my own dad faded away and I was left instead celebrating an incredibly amazing man who encompasses all that a father should be.
Yeah. I’m a lucky girl.
Happy (late) Fathers day!
It sounds like a lovely day with your family! And your Gramps sounds fun….you’ll have to tell us what the T-shirts say after he has received them.
Thanks for your comment…I’m not quite neighbors with you, although close enough - I’m actually here in Albuquerque. I read in one of your past posts that you drove through here recently. Were you able to find a restaurant with a good margarita?
Happy day-after! Hope you have a wonderful week!
Aww, I am with you on the blows. It is rough, but I did put in a call to voice mail too. But my husband and his dad are awesome. I’m glad your hubby makes you feel lucky too!
Thank goodness there is always a new day!
So glad you made some lemonade with your lemons, and had a good day in spite of those who make life sour!
It sounds like a very relaxing day spent with some of the people you love most. You can’t ask for more than that! Not to mention, a Strawberry Creme Frappuccino…
Glad you had a good day with the hubs. And got the strawberry frap out of it…hungry now…THANKS!:)
I’m so sorry about your dads.
Glad you had a great day with Jeff and Jayce though! And I’d like to hear about Gramps’ shirts also!
Its hard when parents don’t really play the part…I know this all too well. Probably better to not say anything at all for a while. Glad you had a fun day.
Free admission day at the Children’s museum? Was it just for Father’s day or do they do this often? I love free and we love to head down there often!
Thanks in advance for the shirts. I usually get comments on the things written on the front. That’s when I realize I’ve picked one of yours since I only look at the color when deciding what to wear.
If you got voice mail you didn’t leave one.
Remember my birthday is just around the corner. We’lll be home the 23rd.
