I’ll Even Let You Name ‘em. Sven Has a Personal Trainer Ring to it Don’t Ya Think?

When I was at Walt Disney World in April for the Mommy Blogger event someone brought up an interesting question at dinner one night.  The question was, “would you rather have a personal chef or a maid?”  The answer was almost unanimous among the moms at our table.  Can you guess it?  It was chef.  Definitely a chef.

I don’t mind the cooking so much, although there are nights that I just don’t want to mess with it.  I’d much rather sit on the back patio with a glass of wine while Jeff grills up some yummy chicken concoction.  The reason I chose chef was because it would save me ions of time.  Not only the actual cooking of the meal, but the planning, shopping and prep work too.  Shoot I’ll clean the toilets every week as a trade off.

So, here’s what I’ve come up with for this week’s rendition of Finish This Sentence:

If my Fairy Godmother granted my wish for a _______________ of my own, I’d never stay out past midnight again.

Okay, now remember we’re thinking along the lines of a personal assistant who would provide some sort of service for you whenever you beckoned.  Think personal trainer, hairdresser, masseuse.  That sorta thing.

I’m stickin’ with chef.  How dang cool would it be to summon Wolfgang from the guest quarters and be like, “Hey, wolfie, be a dear and throw together a nice almond and pesto crusted halibut would ya?  With a balsamic glaze.  Oh, and some Parmesan garlic smashed red potatoes.  Maybe some lemon asparagus too, if it’s not too much trouble.  That raspberry sorbet of yours would be great for dessert.”

Yeah.  I could totally handle that.

  1. I think I rather have a maid since I like cooking! Cleaning sucks!

  2. Ack! I’m shocked that chef was the popular consensus!

Maid all the way here - I DESPISE cleaning and ADORE cooking! I was thinking that with all the time the maid saved me, I’d have more time to try new recipes!

  3. How about a nanny that does all the cooking and cleaning? Does that count? : )

    Steph

  4. Maid. Definitely. I would enjoy cooking if someone else would clean my house. And do my laundry.

  5. Oh now that’s hard to choose, between maid and chef. I think I’d lean toward maid though, especially if they’d clean the kitchen after I’m done cooking in it. :)

  6. Oh, the maid. For sure. I ABHOR cleaning with every fiber of my being, so it would absolutely be a dream come true.

  7. I am so with you, Darcie. CHEF all the way! I am just not very good at cooking. I mean I can, but I don’t love it and its a chore to me and I’m not very creative with it and my family wants to eat every single day. Whatever! I would much rather do dishes and clean out my refrigerator and organize my cupboards than cook an ounce food. But that’s consistent with the OCD in me. ;)

  8. I’d take the house keeper. Then I could cook (which I enjoy) and she could clean up after me! Which the worst part!

  9. There is no way I would rather clean the toilet than cook a meal! (By the way, that meal you dreamed up sounds just lovely!) I would sit back and have my glass of red wine while the cleaner scrubs up my potty and shower and baseboards. And I’d have a margarita while he/she dusts and polishes the appliances and get all the cobwebs. And me and “my friend Mike” would converse as he/she vacuumed and cleaned my hardwood floors. Yes, I could get used to that.

Honestly though, I’m never quite satisfied with how things are cleaned unless I do it myself. That’s why I do it myself. :(

  10. Definitely chef. I would even take down the kitchen sign I received as a Christmas gift from my sister-in-law that says, “I only have a kitchen because it came with the house.”

On the other hand, my girls love to cook. My mom, who watches them after school, has them help her make dinner at her house during the week. On the weekends they give me tips like: “Mom, add a little lemon it’ll give it a little kick.” (with their little heads and knees jerking back, copying Rachel Ray I think) or “Mom, this is the way Emerill chops veggies.” Then they each have a couple of cookbooks of their own that my friends have given them over the years. They open up the book and pick what they want to make, which of course leads to a trip to the store. Thank goodness the weather has become nicer so they can play outside more. My girls were watching way too many cooking shows with my mother!

  11. This one’s a toughie! I think I’m with Steph. A nanny that does all the cooking and cleaning sounds VERY nice. ;)

  12. Personal Slave haha

  13. I think I would choose a chef also…you couldn’t beat having breakfast in bed every morning!

  14. I’m totally all about the chef! Especially one that could please the kids and the parents in one meal. Cleaning is stress relief, cooking causes me stress. But really I’d just like to have Alice from the Brady Bunch!

  15. The chef would be great, but I sorta like being in my kitchen, “creating”. The MAID however would be fantastic! Cooking would be heaops more fun too, in a nice clean & tidy kitchen.

I can’t get this place better than 55% tidy at any one time. It’s so depressing. I read you don’t like clutter Darcie, and I got worried we couldn’t be friends, but I hope you understand. If you ever came to visit, we’d go out somewhere so you couldn’t see my clutter.

Well, truth be told, I hate clutter too, but the only other option would be getting rid of Hubs and the kids forever. I’ll stick with the clutter til my dying day if that’s the choice I’ve got!
