Neither Here Nor There
I don’t know about you, but for me, when it comes to blog fodder, it’s feast or famine. In case you hadn’t noticed I’m sort of starving lately. But, not wanting to leave you hanging for even a moment, I journeyed to the nooks and crannies of my dusty old brain and scavenged for some items of interest. Whether these items are actually of interest or not is debatable, but a post is a post. So sue me.
- I’m having issues. Or rather, Cassidy is having issues with which I must take issue. She has taken to swallowing huge gulps of air. This I know because I hear her doing it. And as you might imagine, when air goes in, air must come out. Typically it comes back out from whence it came. Today, though, it was coming out both ends. Loudly. She has also discovered that she can talk through the belching. I can honestly say that few things are more disturbing than giant man burps befitting of Jim Belushi being dispelled from my sweet and innocent eight-year-old daughter. And I’m at a complete loss as to what I can do about it.
- We watched the first episode of Lost today. Yes, first episode as in the first episode of the first season. We got it on DVD from Netflix. I realize that we’re a tad behind the times here and I have no excuse.
- Jayce has a birthday coming up. He’ll be two. I’m looking for birthday gift ideas. I do realize that he will not care so much about the gifts but I figure it’s a good excuse to buy him some cool stuff. I want some input from the experts though. What do you buy for a two-year-old boy? My criteria is that it won’t break, melt, come apart, tear, unravel, stain, lose it’s cool factor, drive me crazy, or otherwise become useless after a couple of days. Yeah, so, um that leaves us with wooden blocks then right?
- If you’re reading this on Thursday, then it’s my Gram’s birthday. I’m not sure how she would feel about me posting her age, so I won’t but I can I just brag on her for a sec? Every year she celebrates with a margarita on her birthday. She is not a drinker by any means, but she makes it a point to go all out for the occasion. How cute is that? Birthday or not I gotta tell you that she is one amazing lady. A true hero in my eyes for many reasons. So Happy Birthday Gram XOXO, enjoy your massage and your margarita!
So there you have it. Hope you found at least a moment of entertainment tangled up in there somewhere.
I have a great giveaway to announce Friday. Don’t be hoping for cash or something crazy like that, but if you’re a mom to little ones, I think you’ll want to put on your dancing SHOES (hint hint) when you see this one.
I just couldn’t get into the show LOST when it started out on TV. I would love to know what you think and then maybe I will get it too. Watching it by season may be the way to go.
In all honesty, I think that blocks are a great idea! Blocks with accessories. Like people or cars and animals. This is a give that you can easily add accessories to year after year. Puzzles are always cool too. The ones with the big knobs and animal pictures are my favorite. Or anything you can put stuff into and push or pull (goes good with the blocks too). I love shopping for the little ones!
I have a good present idea for you. My little guy who is now one month shy of 7 still plays with this all the time and he received it at 2 also. The Fisher Price Geo Tracks train kit. It is so fun and virtually in-destructible! You can just buy the starter set which is great for the little guys and then add too it as you go. We are still adding to ours but it’s sort of getting ridiculous because the whole family gets involved now and it takes up the entire family room floor. It is my favorite thing we have ever bought him besides his Buzz and Woody from Toy Story!
What is blog fodder? I hear that term a lot, but never have figured out what it means. I need to blog more, I am in a rut!
I think buying for a two-year-old is one of the hardest tasks. I don’t know what makes that age paticularly difficult for me. I think it’s probably because the child is stuck halfway between baby and preschooler, and for some reason I can never find the perfect “developmentally appropriate” toy.
Oh, and Happy Birthday Gram!
I hear you on the belching and bodily noises…they are not my favorite thing. But my kids seem to think they are the funniest thing on earth!
Happy Birthday to your Gram!
And the teaser on tomorrows give-away, do you know what that does to shoe lovers like me???
Would it make you feel better if I told I have only seen 1 episode of Lost…and that was in the middle of one of the later seasons so I was completely out of the loop. Everyone that I know raves about it, so I always thing I should go rent the series. What do you think so far…impressed?
Oh, yes…Happy Birthday to your sweet Gram! I hope you have a wonderful day celebrating!
My DH and I are huge Lost fans. Have watched it from the beginning but there was one season, can’t remember which one, that was a little bit lacking for at least half the episodes. It is really great though and we are so looking forward to this season.
As far as two year old boy toys, I can offer a few suggestions since my son is 2.5. He is into all the things CARS, the movie that is, and otherwise for that matter. Things like this are a big hit with him:

Also, if he isn’t into Thomas the Train yet, you can probably bet he will be at some point and they have some toddler friendly trains that are a nice introduction.
Playdough also has some great accessories and kits that he might enjoy if he isn’t into eating it.
Your Gram sounds great! I can’t think of a better way to celebrate a birthday than with a margarita. In fact, I’m thinking that drinking one in your Gram’s honor would be a good idea (any excuse for a margarita, right?).
Your gram sounds adorable, hope she has a great day!
You’ll get hooked on Lost quick!
I LOVE Lost!!!
:]]
And you will too, soon enough. (They’re not all as nasty as that episode)
I was out shopping the other day when I saw a dad with twin boys - one on each hand. I actually heard them before I was them. More specifically, I heard their shoes. They wore inconspicuous looking sneakers, but the most annoying, most indescribable sound came from the shoes with each step the Wonder Twins took. It was all too obvious that the shoes were supposed to make that loud sound.
Dad gave me a grin and a nod as I commiserated in passing, “Those had to be a gift from Grandma and Grandpa.
Moral of the story: Don’t buy squeaking shoes for a two year old boy for his birthday!
Darcie, this too shall pass. For a while Casey was scrunching up her nose while keeping her upper lip stiff. Just picture a bunny rabbits’ nose twitching and you’ll know what I mean. I begged and pleaded with her to please be aware she was doing it so she could stop. The begging didn’t help matters at all. Finally, I stopped bugging her about it and it went away. AMAZING… since the bunny twitching thing was not in the least bit cute.
What I’m trying to get at here, is, maybe if you all make a pact to completely ignore the belching, and er, other bodily noises, perhaps it will just fade away.
As for the birthday present for a two year old….does he have a swing set? OR a slide?
I’ve had a love/hate relationship with Lost. Totally got into it when it first came out and faithfully watched through several seasons that weren’t so good. I was finally rewarded for my faithfulness when the last 2 seasons aired and they are the best yet. Totally hooked again and eagerly awaiting the new season premiere.
Birthday toys for a two year old… At that age my girls really liked the Little People toys. They have a huge tub of them that they still play with at ages 3 and 5. They last forever! Emma got her first set on her first birthday and they’ve endured being chewed on, thrown around, and being climbed on. Another thing that comes to mind is a wooden railroad set, board books, chunky wooden puzzles with knobs, and a little ride on toy.
Happy Birthday to your Grams!
Obviously you know I love Little People. The pirate set is especially cute, and it’s one of the rare ones that doesn’t make sounds. LOVE that!
But my first response was going to be GeoTrax trains. We LOVE LOVE LOVE GeoTrax in our house! They are fun for the whole family! We went a little (okay a lot) obsessive with them for a while so I’m purging and ebaying a ton of them, but we’re still keeping a bunch too. They are very tough - possible indestructable, as I can actually say that my darling whirlwind-of-destruction daughter has never once broken them. That’s pretty darn amazing right there!
We’ve never seen Lost either, but it’s on my to-do list one day. When I find free time.
Happy Birthday Gram!!!
Two year olds- well Ian is almost there and at this point his favorite things are the Little Tikes picnic table- even destructo jr can’t kill that baby. They use it for crafts and playing and eating- easy clean, no muss, no fuss.
A sleeping bag and tent thingy (they set up inside really easily that I got him from Kohl’s for under 15 bucks.) He will cart his pillow and fave blanky and a bunch of stuffed animals when he is tired and actually take a nap.
Right now he is really into trains- Thomas is the clear winner but I think it is Brio makes a really sturdy indestructible one as well.
I don’t even know what Lost is beyond a popular series, so add me to the clueless loop.
BTW I just found your blog, I love your shoe giveaway but don’t have kiddos who need any now so not entering, but you are very welcome to enter my back to school giveaway- a backpack filled with supplies picked esp for the winner and a bento (japanese style lunch) box.
Also I am adding you to my blogroll, really enjoying what I have seen so far.
