Quick Takes From My Scattered Brain
- Quick! I need help coming up with themed costume ideas for our visit to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Disney World next month. We try to do a family theme (one year it was Peter Pan and then we all went as hippies the next year). So far, the best we can come up with is Alice in Wonderland.
- Have I mentioned that I’m running in a 5K next month? I am. Or should I say I’ll be dragging? Because I will. I’m attempting to train but it’s too dang hot to run. This should be interesting.
- I lost my credit card at the Post office last week. I noticed it was gone two days later and called the credit card company asking that they put a hold on the card. Guess what. Some LOSER had already found the card and used it. I’m appalled that people can be such losers. Seriously. And guess what they bought? $20.27 worth of gas at a Union station at 1:16 in the morning. Like I said: LOSERS!
- I’m just itchin’ for fall to come. I’ve got a serious hankering (yes, I just said hankering on my blog) for some pumpkin bread. And baked ziti. And broccoli cheddar soup. Those are all off limit foods for summer months because I’m freaky like that. When I ask the kids for dinner ideas they always know that they must stick to the correct season or their requests will be turned down. You know, like wraps, salads and bbq during summer months. Casseroles, lasagnas, baked chicken and soups are reserved for fall and winter. You guys do that too right?
- Need. Creative. School. Lunch. Ideas. Help.
- I’m thinking of coloring my own hair. Not highlights or anything, just back to my root color. Got any tips for me?
I LOVE that you have different seasons for your food. I do it to a certain extent, but I will cheat if I am desperate for a change. But I ran across a recipe for Golden Squash Soup that I can’t wait to try, but it must be fall-like weather before I will permit myself to make it.
Wow, I am so proud of you that you are training for a 5K. I am trying to get myself in gear by doing the Couch to 5K program and so far it’s going ok, but I have a long way to go. We’ll be cheering you on!
I’m a big Season Eater too.
I can’t make/eat the Pumpkin Bread until a month with an -ember attached to the end.
Also, George Winston, he plays classical piano and has cd’s entitled Winter, Fall, Summer, Spring. I cannot listen to Summemer in Winter. It’s impossible.
I’m with you on the running thing… it’s too h.o.t. And the treadmill is b.o.r.i.n.g.
Go here http://lifeasonlyweknowit.blogspot.com/search/label/VBS to see my SIL’s great ideas on costumes. That girl can do alot with a small budget.
Creative lunch ideas, huh? I’m so standard with a sandwich, carrot sticks or apple or orange, hcips or crackers sometimes, and a dessert. I do things like wrap cookies by two when I bake and stick them in the freezer for easy take-out. Another alternative to sandwiches is cream cheese in a small rubbermaid with lid, a plastic knife and crackers or hard bread to spread them. I also do the same with peanut butter. My big change this year is that my children are finally all goign to make their own lunches every day! I’ll get stuff prepared ahead and then they get to be creative putting it togther.
Wish I could help with the costume ideas but I am blank on a family theme, though I think that is terribly cute.
I am totally into the seasonal cooking. I plan my weekly menus on the weekends and shop on Mondays. The last couple weeks I have had a really hard time not adding a soup to the menu. I am so ready for the cooler weather and all the fun fall activities that it brings.
Also can’t help on the school lunches because my kids aren’t there yet.
Good luck with the 5K! I am impressed!
I guess I do change what I eat with the seasons although I never really thought about it before. It is no fun sparking up the grill in a winter nor’easter!
I wish I had some creative school lunch solutions for you, but my oldest has purchased the school lunch since she started school and my youngest, who is starting Kindergarten in a couple of weeks, will surely be purchasing the school lunches as well. My oldest usually gets the option of the day or a salad. She likes most of their cooking, though.
Every work day, I bring a salad with me to work….could you make hidden Mickeys with the cucumber for the kids? I think I might start doing this for myself when I go back to work next week!
Have you seen Meet the Robinsons? There are many characters to choose from and I think your 2 y.o. would make a cute Lewis.
Lunch ideas: we do pb&j, cheese/crackers/turkey roll (kind of like a lunchable but home made), mini bagels w/ cream cheese. Have you seen bento boxes? They are a cute way to creatively package a lunch. My 2nd grader is more into buying lunch these days but we try to limit that to 1-2x/week.
Yum - fall brings soups. Can’t wait to make lasagna soup.
Good luck with the run!
As for the costumes….sorry, no ideas here. Still thinking about ours this year and am stuck.
I’m behind and just catching up. Haircolor - Loreal Preference is the best IMO.
I love little bento finger food lunches.
tortilla roll ups, mini quiches (warm in a thermos), and pasta with pesto have all been hits with annie!
Lunch ideas…anything stuffed in a pita pocket (turkey/cheese, chicken salad, egg salad, meatballs/cheese, taco salad), chicken fingers, you can find some more ideas on a post we had written http://mommylounge.wordpress.com/2008/08/11/easy-lunch-ideas/
Now for halloween costumes…alright my lovely corny blog partner Reneca suggested M&M’s because you all could be different colors–and that is the only idea she had
Winnie the Pooh characters, The Incredibles, Family of the sea (mermaid, merman, starfish, dolphin, sea shell)
Maybe those ideas aren’t any better than the M&M idea, sorry.
Hope this helps, Kalisha
