Like most every other blogger in the blogdom I’m taking part in this quarter’s bloggy giveaway carnival. Oy. Do you think I could have fit the word ‘blog’ into that sentence one more time? Probably not.
Since I’m the kinda gal who gives gifts that I’d enjoy receiving I’m giving away one of my favorite gifts to get: a gift card.
Starbucks. Ten smackaroos. Yours for the winning.
Unfortunately for you I’m also the kind of girl who appreciates a contest more than a sweepstakes. So a simple “pick me, I heart Starbucks” left haphazardly in my comments won’t win you this prize.
What will? Give me an idea for a creative hostess gift. It’s random – I know. We’ve been invited to a party though and seeing as how we’re sort of hurtin’ in the friends department I want to make a good impression. Ya know, so we’ll get invited back and all. Heck, if it’s a good enough gift maybe some of the other guests will be envious and invite us over just to score a hostess gift of their own. I’m not above bribery.
Have a look around while you’re here. Thoughtful comments on one or two other posts will definitely improve your chances of winning. I’m partial to the “My Faves” posts over there in the right hand column…
Thanks for stopping by my spot!
*****Edited to add that I will choose a winner Thursday, Jan. 29th at 7:00 Central time.*****

If it is a housewarming and has a fireplace I bring over a duraflame log. If they have a pet I bring over a toy or a treat for their dog/cat.
Thanks for the giveaway!

My sister once had someone bring a housewarming gift where the person went to Whole Foods and picked out a few of their favourite items…a box of crackers, a special spread from Stonewall Kitchen, some chocolates, etc. and tied them up in a beautiful dish towel. You could try something similar.

I’d take a nice bottle of wine that coincides with your personality. It’s a way for them to get to know you!
well, i would give something that you would love but never buy for your self. Like for instance, a nice starbucks gift set with coffee, mugs, and chocolates.
A candle or nice bottle of wine is always appropriate.
I like little plants! Some herbs in a cute little pot are great, as they’re both adorable and useful. It’s a nice way to sidestep food issues (somehow I always seem to give a cake to the person who I later find out has gluten issues, lol). Thanks for the giveaway!
i think the traditional gift is a plant
I always love getting fresh flowers!
over the winter costco has these great little mini chocolate alcohol bottles. just take a few of those and place them in little decorative bags! you’ll be everyones best friend!
i may be traditional but i love to do gift baskets of gourmet foods, everyone likes to eat
Chocolate, of course! I like giving a decorative box filled with specialty hot chocolates, chocolate goodies, and if I can find one, a little chocolate cookbook.
hmmmm…. First time going to they’re place….. hmmmmmm…… You know whatever you bring says alot about the person you are! so if you pick up just any old thing then the person will think you are not ginuine. What ever you bring make sure that you tell them the reason behind the gift. Like a bought this plant because It reminds me of this travel brochure of exotic places…. or I got you this throw blanket because the nights are so cool and its always wonderful to curl up with a throw a book, and a nice glass of wine. You get the picture. Just take what you know about the person and run with it! But remember this one rule: no matter what you get them if they judge you on your gift and not on you as a person then your better off not haveing them as friends any ways!!
If it’s someone I know, I bring something useful for the party, or something that pretains to them. If it’s someone I don’t know, usually I’ll bring blowers and wine (or an equivilant drink, if they aren’t into wine :))
Simple, but lovely :)
I always bake up some kind of dessert. Pies and cheesecakes always please.
The best compliment being you return home with an empty plate.
I think that your delightful company would be enough. Seriously. I invite people back over who were lovely to hang out with, and I think you are.
Recently someone invited us over for the first time, and I did feel sort of like you — I wanted to be liked and invited back. I thought of chocolates, dessert etc, but then I remembered she’s a booklover and since I’m a bookreviewer, I always have a big ole pile of books around, so I brought her about 10 books. I think it was a hit (and we’ve been invited over again!).
a nice blooming plant to bring a touch of spring to a home is a gift i like
Just me but I love dessert. My slogan-there is always room for dessert. Good luck in the friends-ask and you shall find!
How about a fun treat…but include the recipe! Something for now and something for later!
Something that is edible or just not more “stuff” to clutter up their home (unless it’s something you know that they’d actually love – just not another trinket dust collector).
As a gift to a few of our clients for Christmas we create a basket set to that person. One of the baskets that we did was a couple who enjoyed fine wine. We shopped for a couple of nice bottles and added some packages of cheese, a nice dish for serving and we added a GC from a fine dining restaurant. The other basket we did was to a family man, we did a pastry basket with nice cookies and added a GC to a nice restaurant for him and his wife. A personalize basket set up to the person would be my choice for a hostess gift.

I like to take home baked goodies. I try to watch the sales at Michaels (and Hobby Lobby when we lived in a state that had them) for pretty basket sales and ribbon. Then I doll up the basket and bake little mini muffins or loaves – just too darling. Sometimes, if I want to go the extra mile, I will pick up a small jar or two of preserves or jam to go with.
Cheers, Kiy
How about small basket and put some tasty treats either that you make or just get from a bakery. They can enjoy the treats and reuse the basket.
I think a bottle of wine and a small fruitbasket is always welcome :)
thanks!
A nice plate or tray with cookies, wrapped nicely. When the cookies are gone, the hostess has a new plate (or tray).
What I like to get as a hostess is wine or flowers. So that’s what I would give someone. It doesn’t put them on the spot or make them feel uncomfortable and you can all enjoy either!
