Thursday Date Night

March 5, 2009 · 20 comments

I have a standing date on Thursday nights.

I mean, besides Survivor.

Thursday night is clean up night.  And for that reason I have a love/hate relationship with Thursday.  I love it because by night’s end I’m able to sit in the midst of a sparkling house and thoroughly enjoy the dust-freeness of it.  I hate it because I’m not big on cleaning.  At all.

Thursday night clean-up does not fall on my shoulders alone though.  Jeff and I have our method down to a science–we’re really a cleaning force to be reckoned with.  He takes on the kitchen, including a thorough scrub down of the black glass-like cooktop that is my nemesis.  Meanwhile, I tackle the floors.  The very expansive floors I might add.  I also handle the dusting and the peeling of dried up spaghetti, hardened banana mush, and various other assorted pleasantries from the nooks and crannies of our wooden dining chairs.

It’s totally a party.  You know you’re jealous.  Don’t be a hater though.  All are welcome.  Be forewarned that it’s a BYOB kinda party though.  I don’t have enough brooms to go around after all.

Or rubber gloves.

And the scraping of the spoiled food particles from the chairs definitely calls for gloves.

This chore, I’ve recently decided, has replaced the toilet scrubbing as my least favorite.  Toilet scrubbing still hovers at the bottom of my list though.  As does cutting the fat and nasty tendon-like material from chicken breasts in preparation for dinner.  Oh, and pulling the hair from sink and shower drains once they start to back up.  Only it wouldn’t be entirely honest for me to claim that as a chore of my own.  Even standing by as Jeff does it though leaves me teetering on the edge of vomitdom.

If only we could afford a maid.

The live-in variety, preferably, who would have no qualms with laundry, meal planning, or grocery shopping either.

Know anyone?

Oh, that’s Saturday mornings for us.
We too, have it down. I scrub the kitchen and floors, hubby vacuums and picks up.
I think we can do a total job in 1.5 hours.

Hope you had a fun night at your party! ;P

A maid? Wouldn’t that be so nice? {sigh}

Have a great weekend!

Oh crap, I am so totally with you on the tendon-fat-on-the-chicken thing. It really is disgusting. Good luck on the maid. If you find a good one, send her to WV when shes done in AZ =)

We have a live-in and to be honest she’s really slacking lately. She spends way too much time on the computer reading blogs and has been neglecting her duties. I’ve been meaning to have a chat with her but I hear talking to myself is a sign of losing my mind so I’ll put it off until I finish reading a few more blogs.

Sad to say that my husband does most of the cleaning here. I don’t ever do it to his satsfaction, and IMO if you criticize, you get it all to yourself. :D In exchange I do the manly stuff like dealing with dead animals and climbing on ladders – not his strong suit. Not my roblem that his stuff needs doing more than my stuff does – if he doesn’t like it he should man up. ;)

Actually, I’m TOTALLY jealous- THAT YOUR HUSBAND HELPS YOU!!! :) Just kidding…I’m trying to reel in my envy…I have a great husband, really I do, but I do all the cleaning here…but he works & I stay at home, and we only have one baby, so I guess it just works for us. :)

It must feel so good to have a clean house going into the weekend. Does Jeff have any tips for the stove top? Mine is a force to be reckoned with.

That is great it’s a team effort! What better way to spend time with the hubby then cleaning?!?! Well, there might be a couple better ways… ;-) You know like making dinner, laundry, home repairs – fun stuff like that!! LOL

Hey if you find one…send her my way! I’m the worst at chores…at all of them, folding clothes is the worst though!

First you’re running, now you’re cleaning? What is this world coming to?! It’s madness I tell you! Darcie, I’m just one person – how can you expect me to talk you down from both endorphins and 409?

Hahaha, “Bring Your Own Broom” – I loved reading that! My husband and I don’t set aside a day in the week to do the cleaning, instead we wait until someone is invited over or invites themselves over (shudder). That’s when we go on a cleaning FRENZY – now that’s a scary sight. It all gets down, but boy afterwards we are ready for a shower and bed. You’d think we’d learn after doing this for years, but no. We don’t.
I like your idea. I just wish I was up to the task! lol

We need to invent a “time share maid” that we can share :)

I do have house help and she is worth every cent. I’d gladly sell every single pair of my designer jeans to keep her. ;-)

Yes, I know how spoiled I am. Really, I am so thankful that in this volatile economy we haven’t really been affected. YET. We are being cautious. But srsly, my cleaning lady would be the last thing to go!

Lol I don’t think you’re the only one who wishes they had a maid for all those kinds of chores. I agree with the suggestion of the “time share maid”, haha!

Oh, I so wish we could have a maid, too!

And, you must share your secret for removing the gunk from the table and chairs….I was thinking a powerwashing might be my only option.

And, that chicken thing…GROSS!

There is nothing that puts me in a better mood than having a clean house for the weekend!

If you hear of anyone, let me know. Preferably one who works for free. haha

Adam and I REALLY need to institute a cleaning date day/night . . . something! my poor house is a disaster!

That’s a good tradition. Not fun…but productive. I should suggest it to my husband.

Or maybe I should just suggest a maid. Preferably one who will do the grocery shopping too (one of my least favorite tasks).
