Friday Fashion Challenge

April 30, 2009 · 21 comments

I may have mentioned before that I’m a wee bit challenged in the fashion department.  Torri (who is a 14 y/o fashionista) is eons better at the whole mixy-matchy thing than I am.  That’s not to say that she and I see eye to eye on all of her picks.  Take, for example, these little gems.

bluejeans

These were at the the tippy top of her clothing wish list for awhile but I just couldn’t bring myself to actually, well, you know, spend money on them.

Anyway.  Back to my dilemma.

Torri’s 8th grade, and Kennedy’s 5th grade promotions are quickly approaching.  I’ve got the menu all planned for our post promotion barbecue celebration.  I’ve got sleeping arrangements made for all the visiting family.  I’ve even got a dress to wear.

anntaylorgreenpolkadotdress

(This was the biggest picture I could find.  Sorry!)

The shoes though?  An enigma.

I would LOVE to wear these.

Unfortunately for me though I’m not willing to part with the $135 it would cost me to own them.

So I’m in the market for a look-alike pair.  Or even something entirely different that would go with the dress.  I’m thinking along the lines of a wedge sandal because apparently those are all the rage right about now.  And since the color might be tough to match, it wouldn’t be terrible if I went with something brown would it?  You tell me.

Anyway, I’m looking to spend about $50.  Less preferably.  So what do you say?  Help out a footwear challenged girl in need.  Leave me links my friends.

de-lurking just for this one (I have enjoyed your blog for many months now)

I did a google images search on green wedge sandal and came up with a BUNCH of cute ones at overstock.com

here are a couple links just to get you in the general direction…

I do think a natural/light tan/nude/beige sandal would be very cute too tho! something like this? http://www.overstock.com/Clothing-Shoes/Tommy-Bahama-Flamenco-Pueblo/3568508/product.html

Good luck!!!

They have other ones that would be cute, but it would mean going with colors like pink which would also be adorable with the dress. They don’t have to match, they have to go. So sayeth Clinton and Stacy.

Love the dress..and the shoes. But ouch, $150! Don’t look at me, though, I don’t buy shoes!

I did a little bit of searching, and I gotta agree with jen@ourdailybigtop: those ones from Target are the CUTEST! Wow…only $20?! Can’t go wrong!

Would look good with jeans, too…

I LOVE shoes! Not sure what your timeline is but here are a couple suggestions. Find the posted pair on either ebay or overstock.com. You can find new shoes and really good prices on both websites. Overstock.com also has only $2.95 shipping.

The target sandals are super cute and they are almost 5 stars. But I’m not sure the greens are really close??

You could go brown, but I would make it patent. So it has some ‘shine’ to it, making it more summery. Maybe try TJ*Maxx too. They will sometimes have some super cute shoes in their clearance section.

Here’s a suggestion from Overstock.com

Happy Hunting! Can’t wait to see what you find!!

Sorry I’m no help, but the dress will look so cute on you! Are white shoes out of the question?

Who is coming for the special occasion?

You’ve already got links. so I’m being lazy. If it was me, I would probably go with a neutral color that I thought I would wear more. So a wedge sandal with a beige/tan strap would be perfect. Love the dress.

I actually don’t dig the sandals you picked because that strap across the top would visually shorten your legs. And I don’t like the Target ones either (sorry!) It’s really hard to match the green without seeing these in person.

I’m partial to Zappos because they’re local. How about these?

or

or

or

For brown I like these:

And Payless also has these green ones:

I don’t care for the t-strap personally, but you might.

I agree with nicole. Beige/tan or even ivory or white. I personally think the green ones are too much of a good thing.

Have fun at your commencements and party! Nice that you have two moving up at once!

Don’t be afraid of a lighter, strappier sandal. The dress is so light and “flouncy” and super-cute, that the sandals in the picture look a little heavy for it. They might weigh you down and people will look at your feet first! :)

But what do I know? Cute outfit, regardless!

OMG those are just, just like the sandels (cherokees) I believe they were that I wore to my own high school graduation, tan they were, cherokees were all the rage then.

Cute dress!! I think a camel/light tan wedge would look cute. I love a shoe that is not the same color as the dress but compliments it. You are going to look fabulous!

I would not pay $150 for shoes either. They rock for sure, but wow that’s a lot of money for shoes that are not an everyday color.

Oh, I also agree a lighter strappy sandal with that dress would be awesome.

I linked you to like 15 really cute pairs and my post didn’t appear! I could cry! So now you get the abbreviated version:

Zappos and Payless both have cute shoes that I think would work. At Zappos you’ll be in the $80+ range, Payless was more like $25.

Cute dress!

Everyone else has found some cute stuff! I’d just go with some white sandals.

I bought a green and white dress from Banana for easter…same basic color scheme. It showed a creamy colored shoe…almost nude. I got them from Piperlime for $50 I think. Try there.

That dress is super cute and I bet it looks great on you! I love the shoes that you have featured in this post. Do you think you’d wear them for other occasions? If so, maybe they’d be a worthwhile investment…? If not, I say go with a white sandal…or maybe brown.
