How Big A Boy Are Ya?

June 3, 2009 · 21 comments

He’s liable to develop a complex.

Seriously.

We can’t go anywhere (and I really mean anywhere) without perfect strangers remarking on his girth.

Yes, he is a big boy.  No, I’m sure he’s really only two.  I know- he is almost as big as me.

He and I were headed into JC Penney the other day (where the fitting room incident would later occur) and on the way in I overheard passerbys remark that “wow, he’s a big one.”

Later, inside the store, a sweet old lady in the fitting room told me, “his daddy must be a big guy.”

Um?  No.  Not by my standards.  Last time I checked 160 lbs. does not a “big guy” make.

We just somehow produced an unnaturally large child.  So unnaturally large, in fact, that at shy of three years of age, he wears a 5T.

Told ya he’s a big kid.

Not that it was a surprise.

My OB doctor told me all along that he was measuring large.  They kept moving up my due date until eventually I agreed to induce my labor so as to prevent him from growing too big for my small frame.

It’s weird having a big baby.

Every single one of my daughters measures on the teeny side.

Where they are all in the 5th-10th percentile of their respective growth charts, Jayce shoots off the curve.  Quite literally.

He takes after his daddy, who happened to look monstrous in his baby pictures.

No lie.

But eventually his height caught up with his weight.

And so will Jayce’s.

Hopefully sooner than later.  My back is crying for mercy.

A 5T? Wow! My boy is five, and wears a 5T, I can’t imagine a 3yo in that size. Wow, he’s a big one. ;)

That last picture made me laugh out loud! He is a cutie, no matter how big he is!

Oh, and Max has that exact shirt in red and in a 4T (and he is 5 1/2), so I hear the opposite comments…wow, he is so little!

I can’t believe how big he’s getting. I remember when I first started reading your blog. He sure knows how to work the camera.

Okay, what are you feeding that kid and where can I get some for my kid? My daughter just turned 7 and she’s just starting to outgrow her 5T clothes. Poor kid. People ask how old she is and they expect to hear 4 for an answer. Um, no. Not all kids are the same size at the same age people!

I identify with what you are saying. My son was always large. When he was two, people thought he was 4. They always expected him to be better behaved than he was because they thought he was older. And yes it did affect him because I mistakenly put pressure on him to behave beyond his years. He is still a big guy at 27 yrs of age( 6’1″) with parents who are 5′ and 5’8″. And he has lost a 100 lbs in the past year.

What a cutie!!! :) People always used to tell me that my son was little, but he’s right on. Don’t let it bother you. :)

Oh, my gosh! He is just the cutest thing ever, he just OOZES personality!

Our 9yo is a big guy too, he is in britches between size 14 and 16, is almost as tall as his 12yo brother, and wears a youth size 5 shoe. He was a 10 pounder when he was born (at home! with no drugs! never again!!) and takes after Hubs’ granddad who was about 6′ 6″. We sometimes call him Sausage Boy. We get comments too, sometimes, but it doesn’t bother me. I just think back on when he was a scrawny sickly 3yo having seizures and reach over and squeeze those love handles!

I’ve got a big boy too. Well, not at first since he shot out at 2 pounds 13 ounces at 28 weeks. But he sure caught up and then flew off the charts. 95th percentile now for weight. Height is WAY up there too. And well, we are short people. And just tonight, he moved up to a size 5 shoe.

Jayce looks like he has a BIG personality.

I hear it every day “look how big he is”. And I want to flash his preemie pictures.

Jayce is simply adorable!

I hate it when people make comments like that. Jayce is adorable, big or little.

Annie is very small for her age (but we’re on the charts now! 5th percentile – woo-hoo!). Catie is very tall for her age (95th percentile for height, 50th for weight). Annie is 2.5 years older, but they are the same size. People always ask if they’re twins, and when I say no, they just have to go on and on about it. No tact whatsoever. They always say Catie is ‘big’ and it really grates. Give her an eating disorder, why don’t ya? She’s big standing next to a munchkin, sure!

My nephew was a very chubby baby and a lady walking by in the mall said (not to her) “Wow, he’s a fat one” Without missing a beat my sister said loudly “Wow, she’s a stupid one” L-M-B-O

I have huge babies but they always seem to even out. My daughter was premature (34 weeks and 5 days) and was 7lbs 11oz and 21 inches, my first son was 8lbs 1oz and 20 inches , and my latest ‘little’ one was 10 lbs and 24 inches…. *sheesh I’m 5 ft there should be a law! Currently my 5 1/2 year old is 50lbs, my 2 1/2 year old is 25 and the 5 month old, well he’s 20 lbs of chunky wonderfulness. My poor son is smaller than a lot of petite 1 year old girls… lol. When he was a baby old ladies would actually argue with me about his sex… they thought he was “too pretty to be a boy” – what the hell is wrong with people?

I can’t believe how much he looks like a little boy now, instead of a Baby.

The Boy was just as big and all anyone would comment on was his size, and now he’s tall and lanky!
