Speaking Out

August 2, 2009 · 15 comments

Immediately after Jayce’s accident at the pool, the last thing I wanted to do was talk about it.  After telling and retelling the story countless times to the first responders, the hospital personnel, and then family, I was tired of the telling.  Because the telling sparked an onslaught of images in my mind’s eye.  Images that I’d much rather have forgotten.

But in the two weeks since that afternoon, I’ve changed my stance.

Now I don’t mind telling.  I hope that in telling, a child will be saved.

There is a huge water safety campaign going on locally during the month of August.  One of the kick-off events was a press conference that took place at a local pool on Friday.  I was asked to be on hand to share our story.  And that’s exactly what I did.

Made me cry again to watch it. So good of you to speak out and warn other parents of how quickly and easily it can happen. It’s just so hard to watch. (hugs) my friend.

Good for you! I’m behind in my blog reading, so I never got a chance to tell you how sorry I am for what you experienced, and that I’m so happy it all turned out okay and thank you so much for sharing your experience.

That was a good news piece. I think sometimes it takes a real life story to drive the point home. It’s great you had the courage to speak.
I thought of you this weekend while at my DS Baseball team’s Pool party. I was watching my boys like a hawk.

It’s such a blessing that Jayce is well and celebrating his third birthday. And he’s so lucky to have such a wonderful mother. It is truly giving that you are sharing your experience to bring out water safety awareness. So proud of you!!

I’ve been sharing your story with the moms in my neighborhood especially since many of them have pools. I’m sure your story will save many lives.
