Tossed Salad Anyone?

What.  A. Weekend.

Whew.

It was Jeff’s off Friday which was awesome (as always) because we had lunch at our numero uno Mexican restaurant up in the fancy shmancy part of town.

Saturday was kind of a downer though.  It may have had something to do with the birthday party we took Kennedy to.  I knew it wasn’t going well when they opened the door and a cloud of cigarette smoke swallowed me whole.  And really?  It just went downhill from there.  Because the swimming at the party was completely unsupervised.  Which, at one time, may not have been problematic for me, but nowadays, it really is.  That and the fact that the aforementioned cloud of tobacco had been puffed by a pregnant woman really didn’t set well with me.  Go figure.

But what is one to do in that situation?  If one is anything like me, they decide against leaving their daughter there.  And, in favor, they let her stay for but thirty minutes before they hightail the heck out of Dodge.  At least I know now how to RSVP to next year’s birthday party.  Ahem.

Oh.  And Saturday night?  Jayce decided to shove a carrot slice up his nose.  Sigh.  Boys.  Where they get these grand ideas is beyond me.  But he shoved it up there something good.  It took a good ten minutes, but we finally got it out.  The medicine dropper (used as a suction device) wasn’t all that helpful, FYI.  What worked was teaching him the mechanics involved in blowing one’s nose.  Big breath in through the mouth, big push out through the nose.  Worked like a charm.  And when that carrot disc emerged on the tissue?  He asked if he could eat it.  No lie.

Sigh.

Guess what I did today though?

I learned how to save lives.

For real.

I took a CPR class.

As did Torri.  And Kennedy.  And my friend Becca.

We’re certified lifesavers now.

For real.

And, silly as it may sound, I’m completely empowered by that.

Less than one month from now I’ll be visiting Disney’s fabulous water parks.  And, though I’m a tad water shy these days, I’m confident that I would know how to react should disaster strike.  Not that I intend for that to happen.  But after what happened to Jayce, it’s incredibly comforting to know that I could take action should I need to.

I am woman.  Hear me roar.

So.  What were ya’ll up to this  weekend?

There’s just so many things wrong with this post – pregnant lady smoking, unsupervised pool party, carrots up a nose. But your weekend sure sounds a lot more exciting than mine.

Good for you on the CPR training. I’m hoping when you head to Disney’s fab waterparks you visit my old stomping grounds, Blizzard Beach. I was a guard there and LOVED my job. It was 10 yrs ago but who’s counting right? I’m wishing I was going there. You’re so lucky! Congrats again on the CPR cert. Hoping you never again have a situation where you will need it.

P.S. Isn’t it always the in thing to smoke for your in-utero child and not watch your kids swim??… EWWW I can’t believe sometimes how people act.
P.P.S. (I know, seriously, who really ever does p.p.s. anymore) Love your blog Darcie!! Thanks for making me laugh OUT LOUD. You and Beccca both make my day more then you probably realize.

We went to a birthday party for my niece who turned 3 on Saturday. A 3rd sister-in-law announced she is pregnant… but since we’re friends on the facebook you already know that!!! I would have taken her out of that party, too! Pregnant and smoking. nice. One of my biggest pet peeves!!!

Hmmm…I think my weekend was relatively boring compared to yours!

Did your tongue hurt from biting it and not screaming at the smoking pregnant lady? Because I would have had blood dripping out of my mouth.

I thought of you this weekend! We were up North on vacation. We were in the lake and then in the pool when the weather turned cool. Not once did my little guy (almost 3) put his big toe in the water without a lifejacket. There were too many kids and not enough adults so I took precautions.

See? You’re saving lives already!

Oh man…I am impressed you let her stay at all, nicer than me. I would have freaked out at the parents holding the party. FREAKED OUT. Man alive.

I am very proud of you for taking the CPR class! It is empowering.

Ha ha ha! I love the carrot slice up the nose. That is totally and completely hilarious. Only because I can completely imagine it happening here, in my home.

Good for you taking that class. I’ll just bet it makes you feel awesome!
