Jayce will turn three this week. Sometimes I think of these last three years and marvel at how fast they’ve gone. And other times I can’t remember what it was like not to have him.
Before him there were only girls.
And girls are oh so very different.
They never ate their boogers for one thing. (Where does that come from?)
They didn’t crawl on the floor and lick people, claiming to be a puppy. Okay. They may have done that. But it was a short-lived experience. Not something they stretched out all. day. long.
They didn’t run to the window every time they heard the garbage truck come barreling down the street.
Nor did they show an ounce of interest in watching Daddy shave.
Boys are different alright.
But every bit as intricate. Just as fun. And completely loveable.
Come Friday we’ll be doing some celebrating around these parts. Because while I never would have imagined the ups and downs this baby boy would take us on, I wouldn’t trade a minute of it.
And, if you ask me, that’s something worth celebrating.

Charlotte will be 3 on the 22nd. Her favorite thing in the world is to be a puppy. She BEGS for Cheerios in a bowl with no milk so that she can get down in the floor and eat it like dog food.
Happy Birthday to your baby!
Yeah, there’s nothing like being woken up at 5 am on a Saturday to “Mooommmm…. Garbage truck!!!!”
Can’t wait to celebrate the little guy :-)
Yes, little boys (and sons) are very lovable and worth celebrating! I so wish I could be there to celebrate with him. To think, he was 1 1/2 and not talking the last time I saw him. Hard to believe he’s turning 3 Friday.
Happy early birthday to your sweet boy. Your post made me think about how nice it might be to have a boy ourselves, and that’s saying a lot! ;)
Boys are magical. They truely are snips and snails and puppy dog tails.
I loved this post, because it reminds me how wonderful these boys of mine are, even in their booger-eating grossness.
Now Darcie, we need a picture of that little boy of yours!
Yes! I remember those puppy playing days…luckily there is no booger eating in my house. Enjoy the week leading up to the big 3 celebration!
We’ll be there in spirit on Friday! Adam goes to the window too when he hears the trash truck.
I too will be there in spirit and in real life next month for a lot longer. Please give that guy a kiss poke from me.
it is funny how things change. One day we can’t imagine what our lives will be like with a family of our own- and one day we look back and can’t remember how we made it through a day without them. (or what it felt like)
Boys are most definitely special, aren’t they? I hope Friday is a beautiful day!
Can totally relate to the garbage truck thing! Wednesdays (garbage and recycling day around these parts) are my favorite because it means I can get something done while my little guy has his face plastered to the window for a whole 5 minutes times two, once for the garbage truck, once for the recycling truck.
Happy Birthday Jayce!! My little guy turns 3 in October – how fast they grow!!! Oh – and Aurora has eaten her boogers…should I be concerned?? LOL!
I feel so blessed to have one of each! Happy Birthday, Little Guy!!
My son turns three in November. He’s my first and only, but my sister-in-law had five girls and we would watch them from time to time. Yeah, boys are definitely different, but I do love it! Happy Birthday to your little one!
I know exactly.what.you.mean. Boys are different. :D
Happy 3rd Birthday to your little sweetie-pie!!
I can’t even imagine having a boy! They are soooo different!
But, Izzy did crawl up to me the other day and lick me!
Happy early birthday, Jayce!
And I hear you 100%, Darcie. Boys are just plain goofy; but I wouldn’t have it any other way, of course!
Yes, boys are indeed so different, huh! Happy, Happy birthday, little man Jayce!! :)
I’m so glad to hear my 3 year old is normal. The whole licking and dog and trash truck thing, yessir, normal!!! Happy Birthday big guy =)
Heheh what a cute post! :P
I always tell my son that boys are extremely weird. It’s all about smashing and crashing. Just plain odd. But oh, so wonderful too.
Happy Birthday to Jayce!!
I often wonder about the differences. I have all boys (3 of em) and think about that elusive daughter. Happy birthday to your little one.
