The Hunt

Jayce has a new love.

He found the first one yesterday.

But in between his balloon bouncing and train zooming it got away from him.

So we had to go in search of more.

He looked in all the wrong places.

Until.

Where did you find the first one?

Over there.

Under that tree?

Yeah.

Maybe we should look there.

Yeah.

Look!  There are acorns growing on the tree.  See?  They’re wearing little hats.  When they fall off the tree, they land down here.

Yeah!

Let’s look for more.

Ottay.

And then today.

Where are you going?

Outside.

What are you going to do out there?

Find atorns.

Okay.  Put your shoes on.

Ottay.

He puts on his shoes.  And the tie he found in his sister’s closet that he can’t go without.

He squats.

He looks up at the tree.  He waits.

And then…

Look!  Another one fell off the tree.  Can I bring it inside?

Yes.

And so it goes – the rest of the morning.

The shoes.  The squatting.  The wait.  The hunt.

The discovery.

This boy.  He fills me up.  With his wonder.  His curiosity.  His words.  His stubby fingers.  His Mickey Mouse pajamas and his pink tie.

I think I’ll start hiding the atorns.

So he never stops looking.

Priceless! I can hear him saying “ottay!”

I love the 2nd picture of him.

Just waiting… patiently… like he has all the time in the world… because he does, doesn’t he?

I remember sending Becca a big bag of them a couple of years ago – must be that inside the little hat are little worms that come to life when they get warm and travel all the way to AZ. Just ask her about them. I am sure she remembers.
P.S. He is beautiful

Oh my that is the cutest!!!! I love the outfit. LOVE it!

My kids have a thing with acorns, too. We live under a canopy of oaks, so let me tell you that there are thousands of them. They gather buckets and buckets of them, and pile them in a “hiding place.” I have no idea why. Just because, I guess.

He is precious, especially with that tie. I love the last picture of his little fingers and fingernails. Oh, and I love the squatting picture, too. So sweet.

Love the outfit. Little boys have such uninhibited style. And now awesome that he waits for the acorns to fall. :)

This post made me tear up. Our youngest MUST wear his Lightening McQueen pjs every day right now…as in all day. I have his application for preschool next year on my desk and i can’t bring myself to fill it out because it will end day on end of Lightening McQueen jammies….

It has only just begun! We love doing little nature hunts on our walks around our neighborhood! My pockets never come home empty!

Adorable. I just tossed the bag of acorns collected by my own “boy of wonder” in October on our trip to Branson, MO. They’ve been in a small tote bag under the seat of my van…yes since October. We don’t actually have a lot of oak trees in the vicinity of our house…so acorns are a big deal when we do find them elsewhere. And he currently has a gladware container of ficus leaves in his room that he gathered from the floor behind the big chair in the family room.

And my favorite was when he was 4, he discovered and carried around exactly one tiny piece of orange pulp in a ziploc baggie telling everyone it was “the smell of orange”.

I love him so.
