A to Z

Two Christmases ago we bought Jayce the Fridge Phonics from Leapfrog.  We did so with good intentions, hoping that he’d learn to spell his name and various other CVC (consonant vowel consonant) words.

He loved the toy.  For about fifteen minutes.

It wasn’t long, though, until all of the magnets were relegated to a corner of the fridge, where they remained mostly untouched.

Until.

Until one day I stumbled to the kitchen first thing in the morning and went to the fridge in search of components for school lunches.  When what to my sleepy eyes did appear?

Aww.  He’s so sweet to me.  And no.  He doesn’t have any brothers.

The magnet love note remained for quite some time.

Until.

Until some snot-nosed-brat came along and basically pooed on my pocket full of sunshine.

Well howdie doodie to you too.  Punk.

And with that it was as if the flood waters let loose.  Everybody (or at least those who can spell) gets in on the action now.  Rarely, if ever, is there not a message spelled out across our refrigerator for all to see.

Some are practical:

Some are political:

Some have ulterior motives:

While others are motivational (in this case, motivating me to step away from the leftover cheesecake):

There is that on which my teen/tween daughters and I cannot agree:

And thus my added commentary:

Of course, there is also that on which we find common ground:

And perfectly explains the itch we get around this time every year:

*sometimes we have to take creative liberty with our spelling*

I’ve also been know to leave reminders for my dear daughter, who dabbles when she should be doing dishes:

But the most profound messages?  Those which put into simple terms that which weighs heavily on our minds:

If only God would post a reply via the fridge magnets.  Life would be much easier right about now…

My hubs always “wrote” bad things on our fridge with ours! When we got our stainless steel though I said no more! :)

This is an awesome and creative post – it really says a lot about your [wonderful] family.

Selfishly, I say “stay” because I really want to get to know you better. But…ultimately, I hope you make the decision that gives you the most peace.

What a great idea! We have those and that will help with my daughter’s reading. I don’t know what decision you are trying to make right now, but I’m sure whatever you decide will work out. (((HUGS)))

Oooh. I likey this post. Especially how you round it out at the end and leave us all going crazy with whatever decision it is you are trying to make. If you are moving to the Northern Virginia area, I can give you a recommendation on a fabulous neighborhood that is home to a couple of bloggers that happy hour frequently during the warm months. Seriously, you’d fit in well around here. :)

Love this post! We do the same thing with ours, though we have the benefit of two sets of letters since we also have the Word Whammer. It really helps with the spelling.

I vote GO…but of course I can’t speak for the big man. But surely He would want us to be closer, right? Oh hey – maybe the still-vacant house next door is a sign. Now to find Jeff a job…

I love it! We have the same set, but Luke just uses it as an excuse to try and get up from the dinner table. “But mom, I’m going to practice my letters!”

p.s. When he points at the O, he says O FOR OBAMA. ;)

We had fun with my 3yo’s set too. Until we moved and lost the V and X. Oh, and the magnets don’t stick to our new frig. Bummer.

Looks like it’s a great exercise in finding pharses without repeating letters!
